Violent Behaviour: The effect of civil conflict on domestic violence in Colombia

Dominik Noe and Johannes Rieckmann

In this paper the authors analyse the impact of civil conflict on domestic violence in Colombia and find that higher conflict intensity increases the likelihood of women to become a victim of domestic violence. The idea behind this is that the experience of conflict changes behaviour, attitude and culture. As an observable outcome of this change in behaviour they look at domestic violence. Taking advantage of the uneven spatial distribution of the conflict they assess its impact, using micro data from Colombia.
